Almost Perfect : Pyrus Electronics (TM) Genuine Leather Case for iPad 2 (latest generation) (Black)
After using this Yoobao (AYL) iPad case for nearly a month at home and occasionally while out, I can say I like it. It doesn't fit my needs 100% of the time but it's a nice case. It reminds me of a good pair of jeans.
Out of the box, I liked the quality and feel and scent of the leather. It's very "real" and it's unlike most iPad 2 cases. It's a true black, and is a matte finish. It's just a bit faded (like those jeans). I don't mind the white stitching because it's suited to the style of this case. The case is lightweight. It feels great in-hand. The graining of the leather is a great texture. The inner material is really soft and also feels great. The inner material is a medium-dark gray that gives the case a more serious look (like heavy metal jeans, maybe...). The fit of the case is good. My iPad with Moshi Visor slipped right into the case and the leather flap helped secure it. I did find myself re-tucking the flap the past few days, so I think the leather has started stretching just a bit. The cutouts seem properly placed, and there are even holes for the speaker (which seems as loud as it was pre-case). One thing I noticed is that I've had trouble accessing the rotation lock switch because it's right up against the edge of the oval cutout for it and the volume rocker. Very carefully elongating that oval should solve that issue if you have it. The edges of the case seem to have been glued before being stitched, which is fine with me since there hasn't been an unpleasant smell that others complained about. There's one thing about the edges though...in the past several days, there has been a bit of "fringing" along the edges of my case. I'm not rough with my case; it is getting only light use around the home, being propped on a table or pillow or just held in hand. The good thing is that it seems to suit the style. I think the fringing, more noticeable up close, is normal for this kind of leather and/or cut and just something you should keep in mind will happen. The case just keeps reminding me of those comfy jeans!
One thing I haven't liked about this case are the magnets. The sleep function just isn't working for me. Sometimes it does turn the iPad off when I close the case but not usually. Then sometimes after I've turned the iPad off manually, the case wakes it back up while closed! The other problem regarding magnets is that nothing seems to keep the cover closed (magnetically). While in my purse (regardless of which direction I've put it in), I see the cover flapping on and off turning the iPad on and off. The same thing can happen when I'm carrying the iPad around. Of course I can turn the sleep function off, but I don't want to when my iPad is in a case that should work with that feature. So.... that's my main complaint with this case.
Another small complaint I have is that the flap on the back of the case doesn't hold the front cover very securely unless the iPad/case remain absolutely still (hard to do even for basic typing or game playing). I'm guessing that all cases that utilize a flap are similar?
To end my review... I think the Yoobao case deserves 4 stars because it is made of quality materials and it is a slim lightweight case with (mostly) good fit and a unique style. It lost one star for quirks and one flaw. It's a good choice for the cost and for anyone who loves jeans! Remember, you can get this case in other colors as well!
